eSIM for traveling from Japan

If you're leaving Japan, your Japanese plan no longer offers the same value here: international roaming is charged separately and daily, and it's the quickest way to an unpleasant bill when you return. A travel eSIM avoids this: you buy your data before you leave at a fixed price, and you're connected upon arrival without searching for a store or swapping SIM cards.

You keep your Japanese number and WhatsApp. The eSIM is added to your phone as a second line and handles only the data.

How much data do I need?

It depends on how you use your phone abroad. For maps, messaging, and some social media, a small plan is usually enough. If you're going to share the internet with your laptop, upload video, or work while connected, a generous plan or one of the unlimited volume plans is better. On each card, we tell you what each option is suitable for.

Is my phone compatible?

You need a phone that is eSIM compatible and unlocked from your carrier. The check is immediate: dial *#06# and look for an EID code in the list. If it appears, your device supports eSIM. iPhones from the XR onwards and most mid-range and high-end Samsung, Motorola, Google Pixel, and Xiaomi models from recent years support it, but the *#06# test is the definitive check for your specific model.

How do I activate it?

You'll receive the QR code by email within about a minute of purchase. You scan it from your phone's settings, and you're done. The days start counting when you connect at your destination, not when you buy it, so you can install it from Japan and forget about it. You have 180 days to install it.

Remember, it's a data-only plan: no traditional calls or SMS, but WhatsApp and video calls work normally because they go over the internet.

What if I don't use it?

If you end up not traveling and haven't installed or activated it, we'll refund the full amount within 100 days. Also, if there's a technical issue we can't resolve. We provide support in Japanese via email and WhatsApp.
