How a travel eSIM works and how to activate it
A travel eSIM gives you internet abroad without paying your carrier's expensive roaming fees. You buy a data plan for your destination, receive a QR code by email, and install it on your phone in less than 1 minute. How does an eSIM work?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a chip already soldered inside your phone. Instead of inserting a physical card, you download an operator profile by scanning a QR code. That profile tells your phone which network to connect to, so when you arrive at your destination, you connect to local networks as if you had a local SIM.
How do I activate an eSIM?
Installation and activation are two distinct moments. First, you install the profile by scanning the QR code (better at home with WiFi). Then, upon arrival, you activate the data line and roaming for that eSIM. The days of your plan start counting from the first use of data at the destination, not from the purchase.
How to install an eSIM on iPhone and Android?
On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR code. On Android (Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi): Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM. The menu changes slightly depending on the manufacturer, but it always comes down to scanning the QR code we sent you via email.
Do I need to remove my current SIM card?
No. Most mobile phones support Dual SIM: you keep your usual SIM or eSIM for calls, texts, and WhatsApp, and use the PuraSim eSIM only for travel data. When you return home, simply deactivate the travel eSIM.
Can I share the data via hotspot?
