What is an unlimited-data eSIM?
It is a travel data plan where you don't buy a fixed number of gigabytes: you pay per day and stop counting your usage. It installs from a QR code sent to your email, activates the first time you connect at your destination, and runs on local carrier networks, just like the rest of our plans.
It's the comfortable option when you can't predict your usage: long trips, remote work, tethering a laptop, or simply not wanting to think about it.
«Unlimited»does not mean unlimited speed
This deserves to be said plainly before you buy, because almost nobody explains it. The volume really is unlimited: you won't run out of data and there are no top-ups. What is capped is the top speed: each plan runs at full speed up to a daily threshold —in the region of 2 to 3 GB per day depending on the plan—and after that the connection keeps working, but at reduced speed.
The exact threshold for each plan is written on its own product page, and the counter resets every 24 hours. So if you go over one day and notice things slowing down, you are back at full speed the next day without doing anything.
When it is worth it, and when it is not
Worth it if you will be away for many days, if you work online, if you share the connection with other devices, or if watching your remaining gigabytes stresses you out.
Not worth it if your trip is short and your usage is normal —maps, messaging, some social media—. A per-gigabyte plan is usually cheaper for that, and you will find it in the catalogue by destination. We would rather tell you than sell you more than you need.
Which destinations have unlimited plans?
We currently offer this type of plan in 197 destinations, from the most travelled —Japan, the United States, Thailand, Italy, Mexico, Turkey—to countries where getting a local SIM is a hassle. Each destination has its own available durations; you will see them on the product page, along with the carrier it connects to and the supported networks.
What do you need to use one?
Just two things: an eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked phone. To settle it in five seconds, dial *#06# on your phone keypad: if an EID appears among the codes, your phone supports eSIM. If it does not, it is not supported and no provider will be able to activate one for you.
Keep in mind these plans are data only: no traditional calls or SMS. WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime and video calls all work normally because they run over data. And you keep your own number: the eSIM is added to your phone, it does not replace your line.
How do you activate it?
You buy it, the QR arrives by email in about a minute, and you install it whenever you like. Validity does not start on the day you buy, but the first time the eSIM connects at your destination, so you can set it up at home without rushing. You have 180 days from purchase to install it.
If something goes wrong
We refund in full within 100 days if the eSIM was never installed or activated, and also if there is a technical fault we cannot resolve. Once activated and with data used, it is no longer refundable. You can reach us by email or WhatsApp in Spanish, English or Portuguese.
