Frequent questions

eSIM compatibility, without a doubt

The quickest way is to dial *#06# on your phone's keypad: if a 32-digit EID code appears, your phone supports eSIM. You can also check in Settings, looking for "Add eSIM" or "Mobile Plan," or consult the list of models on this page.

Yes. Samsung Galaxy S20 onward, the Z Flip and Z Fold foldables and many Galaxy A models support eSIM. On Android it's also found on Google Pixel 3+, several recent Xiaomi and Motorola phones. The menu to add it varies a little by manufacturer.
Yes. To use an eSIM from another provider, the phone must be unlocked, meaning free of any carrier lock. If you bought the phone in installments through a carrier, check that it has already been unlocked.
The EID is your phone's eSIM identification number, just as the IMEI identifies the phone itself. If dialing *#06# shows a 32-digit EID, it means your device has a built-in eSIM and is compatible.
Yes. Most compatible phones run in Dual SIM mode: you keep your physical SIM for calls, texts and WhatsApp on your usual number, and use the eSIM just for data abroad. Simply pick the eSIM as your data line in settings and you avoid roaming.
Dial *#06# on the phone keypad: if an EID code appears alongside the IMEI, your phone supports eSIM. Note that the same model may lack it depending on region (units from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau often have no eSIM even when the European version does).
Yes, as long as it is a Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad (from around 2018) or another tablet with eSIM and mobile connectivity. You install it just like on a phone and browse with data. Tablets do not make calls over the mobile network, but for a data-only eSIM that is exactly what you need.

More about eSIM compatibility

Is my phone compatible with an eSIM?

eSIM compatibility depends on your phone model. The quick rule of thumb: almost all mid-range and high-end phones launched since 2018 support it. The most reliable way to check is to dial *#06# and look for the EID code. Here we answer the most common questions about which phones have eSIM.

Why do some phones not have eSIM?

eSIMs started appearing in mobile phones from 2018 onwards. Older models, very basic ones, or certain regional versions do not include it. If your phone is a mid-range or high-end model and is less than 5 years old, it most likely has one.

Can I have an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?

Yes, it's called Dual SIM. Most compatible phones allow you to use your physical SIM for calls and your usual number, and the PuraSim eSIM just for travel data, at the same time.

Does eSIM work on tablets and smartwatches?

Many iPads and some Apple Watches and smartwatches support eSIMs, but it's best to check the specific model. Our eSIMs are primarily designed for mobile phones, which is where internet is most used during travel.

I bought the iPhone in the US, does it work?

Yes. Since the iPhone 14, models sold in the United States work only with eSIM (they do not have a physical card slot), so they are fully compatible with a PuraSim travel eSIM.
