Traveling to Gambia with an eSIM gives you mobile data as soon as you land at Banjul airport, without searching for stores or dealing with a physical SIM. Gambia is not part of the European Union, so your home plan does not include free roaming: using your data there can cost you between 10 and 15 euros per day. Our eSIM connects to local networks from Africell, QCell, and Comium, the same ones used by Gambians, so you have real data coverage at a travel price.
Roaming outside the EU is the classic traveler's trap: a week in Gambia checking maps, WhatsApp, and an occasional video can skyrocket your bill over 80 or 100 euros. With an eSIM, you pay once, you know the cost in advance, and there are no surprises when you return home. Plus, you keep your usual number active in case your bank or airline calls, while data travels through the eSIM.
Our plans for Gambia start from €3.95, well below what you would spend on a single day of roaming. As a guide, for a 4 or 5-day getaway with normal use of maps and messaging, 1 or 2 GB is usually enough; if you're going to upload photos, make video calls, or stay a couple of weeks, choose between 3 and 5 GB. You can see all options and compare prices in all destinations and choose the gigabytes that fit your trip.
A local SIM card requires queuing at an Africell or Gamcel stand, presenting your passport for registration, and physically changing your phone's card. The eSIM is completely digital: you buy it before leaving Spain, install it in five minutes, and arrive in Gambia with internet already working. No losing your usual SIM or depending on a store opening on the day you land.
Yes. Data coverage is good in the most populated and tourist areas: the capital Banjul, the populous Serrekunda, Brikama, the coastal area of Bakau and Kololi, and the resorts of the Smiling Coast. Africell and QCell networks provide good 4G signal in these areas; inland, towards Farafenni or Basse, coverage is more irregular, which is normal for any operator in the country.
When you buy it, you receive a QR code by email. You scan it from your phone's settings, activate data upon arrival in Gambia, and that's it, no cables or stores. First, check that your phone is eSIM compatible and unlocked. If it's your first time, in our eSIM guide, we explain the installation step-by-step so you arrive in Banjul with internet from minute one.
