The Faroe Islands are an autonomous archipelago of Denmark in the North Atlantic, but they are not part of the European Union. This means that your "roaming at home" plan does not work here, and data is billed as in an expensive international destination. With an eSIM for the Faroe Islands, you connect to the local networks of Hey (Føroya Tele) and Vodafone Faroe Islands as soon as you land at Vágar airport, without changing your SIM card and without unpleasant surprises on your bill.
Being outside the EU, roaming in the Faroe Islands with your usual operator can cost you between 10 and 15 euros per day, and many plans don't even include Faroese coverage. Activating an eSIM before leaving home prevents that surprise: you pay a fixed rate for the data you will use and browse normally to check maps, book boat excursions, or share photos of the Vestmanna cliffs. Without relying on hotel Wi-Fi or physical stores.
Our plans start from €3.95. For a long hiking weekend, 1 or 2 GB is usually enough; if you stay a week touring islands and use a lot of Google Maps and social media, estimate between 3 and 5 GB. Since the main use in the Faroe Islands is maps, messaging, and some browsing, you don't need huge plans: you choose the GB according to the travel days and avoid overpaying. You can compare prices and coverage in all destinations.
The traditional Faroese SIM card is purchased in stores in Tórshavn or at the airport, with limited hours and often sold out during high season. The eSIM is digital: you install it from your couch at home with a QR code, keep your usual number active for calls and WhatsApp, and carry both profiles on the same phone. No plastic to lose, no queues upon arrival.
Yes. The eSIM relies on the real networks of Hey and Vodafone Faroe Islands, which provide 4G and 5G coverage in inhabited areas: Tórshavn, Klaksvík, Runavík, Vágar, or the village of Gjógv. In submarine tunnels between islands and in some very narrow valleys, the signal may temporarily drop, just as it happens to any local operator, but in main towns and roads, the connection is stable.
After purchase, you receive a QR code by email. You scan it from your mobile settings, install the profile, and leave it ready before traveling; data starts counting when you connect to the Faroese network. All the step-by-step instructions, device compatibility, and configuration tips are in our eSIM guide. In a few minutes, you'll be connected in the Faroe Islands without roaming.
