eSIM para chilenos viajando al extranjero — 2026

In short: Chile leads in connectivity in Latin America, but roaming is still expensive when leaving the country. A PuraSim prepaid eSIM gives you 4G/5G data in Europe and worldwide for a fraction of the price of Entel, Claro, or Movistar Chile. This guide explains everything: prices in CLP, compatibility, and how to activate it.

Why do Chileans need eSIM when traveling?

Chile has one of the most modern telecommunications infrastructures in Latin America. Chileans are used to high-speed data, competitive plans, and good coverage. The problem is that this efficiency vanishes when crossing the border: international roaming from Entel, Claro Chile, and Movistar Chile in Europe can cost between CLP 20,000 and CLP 45,000 per day with very limited data.

On a 2-week trip to Europe, roaming costs can exceed CLP 600,000 just for internet. For that budget, a Chilean traveler would rather spend it on restaurants, museums, or transport.

PuraSim's eSIM offers a direct alternative: fixed prices, no surprises, paid before traveling. The plan is installed in minutes from Santiago, Valparaíso, or Concepción, and works throughout Europe from the first minute.

Prices in Chilean Pesos (CLP)

As of June 2026 (1 USD ≈ CLP 950):

Option Data Estimated Price (CLP) Per GB (CLP)
Entel Chile Roaming (Europe) 250 MB/day ~CLP 22,000/day ~CLP 88,000
Claro Chile Roaming (Europe) 200 MB/day ~CLP 19,000/day ~CLP 95,000
PuraSim Europe 5 GB eSIM 5 GB 4G/5G, 30 days ~CLP 7,600 ~CLP 1,520
PuraSim Europe 10 GB eSIM 10 GB 4G/5G, 30 days ~CLP 16,150 ~CLP 1,615
PuraSim Europe 20 GB eSIM 20 GB 4G/5G, 30 days ~CLP 33,250 ~CLP 1,663

The difference is up to 60 times in the cost per GB. With a PuraSim eSIM, what you pay for one day of Entel roaming is enough for a whole week of data in Europe.

Step-by-step activation guide

  1. Check your device's compatibility. Most iPhones from XS onwards, recent Samsung Galaxy S/A, Motorola Edge, and some Xiaomi phones support eSIM.
  2. Confirm it is unlocked. Devices purchased unlocked (without a carrier plan) in Chile are usually unlocked. Those with Entel or Claro plans may need unlocking.
  3. Choose your plan on PuraSim. For Chilean travelers going to Europe for 2-3 weeks with normal use (maps, social media, photos), we recommend 10 GB.
  4. Receive the QR and scan it. On iPhone: Settings → Cellular Data → Add Cellular Plan. On Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add cellular plan.
  5. Set priorities. Configure the eSIM as your data line in Europe and your Chilean SIM for calls/SMS.
  6. Activate upon arrival. Install in Chile, activate upon landing. The plan starts with the first data usage.

Favorite international destinations for Chileans

Chileans are avid travelers. Their most popular international destinations:

  • Spain — Madrid and Barcelona. The Chilean community in Spain is large, and it's the first European destination for many Chileans.
  • France and Italy — Culture, gastronomy, and art. Chilean travelers highly value the European cultural experience.
  • Argentina and Brazil — The most frequented Latin American destinations (for which we also have eSIM plans).
  • United States — Miami, New York, and Los Angeles. PuraSim also covers North America.
  • Peru and Colombia — Gastronomic and cultural destinations that many Chileans visit.
  • Portugal, Germany, and Netherlands — Secondary European destinations that are gaining popularity.

Tips for Chilean travelers

  • Chileans are demanding about internet. Accustomed to good local connectivity, they expect the same abroad. PuraSim's 4G/5G plans meet those expectations.
  • Use CurrencyFair or Wise to exchange currency. Your eSIM keeps you connected to manage these online platforms.
  • Download Google Maps offline. For Barcelona, Madrid, or Rome, download the city before leaving the hotel.
  • Transportation apps are key in Europe. Bolt, Uber, Citymapper. All need data. Your eSIM keeps them working.
  • Europe's weather is surprising. European winters are much colder than in Santiago. Check the forecast with your eSIM data.
  • Buy the eSIM before arriving at the airport. Arturo Merino Benítez's WiFi can be congested. Install the eSIM in advance.
